Redefining hustle

means aligning with purpose

This shift in our relationship to “work” supports us in taking inspired action, and to manifest our greatest dreams and deepest desires with a sense of ease.

The “hustle” - as I define it - includes taking care of ourselves, prioritizing rest and doing work we love, so much so that it feels more like play (versus obligation, duty, and responsibility).

When I quit my first full time job in 2011 and created Colored Girls Hustle®️, I was in desperate need of transforming my relationship to work. I was burned out and tired of working at least 45 hours and commuting 10+ hours a week.

My human design is a Manifesting Generator. I come into this world with so many interests, gifts, talents, and abilities. Committing my life to a 9-5 until I retire or die just didn’t work for me, and still doesn’t.

Narrowly fitting my joy into evenings and weekends, or annual two-week employer-approved paid time off was not sustainable for me. I need(ed) flexibility in daily routines, freedom to play, and authority over my time. I suspect we all do.

I do not believe in selling my time.

I do not believe in living to work and working to live.

Colored Girls Hustle®️ does not subscribe to hyper productivity and grind culture.

Another way is possible, and I carve that path for myself every day.

I have consistently asked myself: how can I align my work in the economy with my purpose on the planet? And I’ve discovered that my purpose is bigger than a vocation, bigger than my participation in the US and global economy.

My purpose shows up in how I relate to and create any and everything I do.

So, what is Colored Girls Hustle®️

Colored Girls Hustle®️ is the home for all of my projects. A way to organize many of the ways I show up in the world, which has (and continues to) evolve and iterate over time.

My vision and intention for Colored Girls Hustle®️ is to create art, experiences, presentations and products that bring value into people’s lives and shifts our narrative as well as our relationship to work, especially for women of color and gender expansive people whose labor has been exploited, undermined, undervalued and yet responsible for so much institutional wealth - historically and currently.

In this space, I am reclaiming my time and my sovereignty, I am liberating my labor and my creativity, and I hope that my work inspires others (you!) to do the same.

Colored Girls Hustle®️ is:

  • the shelter and sanctuary of my creative works and divine assignments

  • a sacred portal and platform for all of the processes and collaborations that are required to bring those works to life

  • a living manifesta of my values, creativity, and dreams
